Preparing 3D Models
1. Start Blender and Check Units:
- Download Blender from blender.org and install it. (Blender is a completely free software.)
- Launch Blender and at startup, check the "Units" section under the "Scene" tab to select the correct measurement unit.
2. Import the 3D Model:
- To use an existing 3D model, use the "Import" option from the "File" menu and select your 3D model file.
3. Adjust 3D Model Orientation:
- Select the 3D model and use the "Move" tool to position your model to the appropriate location to center it to the origin (0,0,0).
- Ensure that no part of the 3D model falls below the zero point on the Z-axis.
4. Check Dimensions:
- Use the "Dimensions" section in the "Item" menu on the right to check the 3D model's dimensions.
- You can also use the "Measure Tool" to check the dimensions of the 3D model.
- Use the "S" shortcut to scale the 3D model up or down.
5. Organize Layer Names:
- You can use different layers to organize your work when editing the 3D model.
6. Check Polygon Count:
- Access the 3D model's polygon information by opening the "Statistics" option under "Viewport Overlays" menu.
- Use the "Decimate" tool to optimize the 3D model by reducing the polygon count.
7. Check and Optimize File Size:
- If your 3D model exceeds the 30 MB limit, access the visuals of the 3D model's materials and optimize them by reducing their size using Photoshop or a similar application.
8. Export:
- Export your 3D model in GLB format from Blender.
These steps will help you prepare your 3D model using Blender and get it ready for uploading to Teledomica Showcase.
Blender offers a comprehensive toolset for professional-quality 3D modeling, animation, and rendering. With its free availability and strong community support, it has a wide user base. Therefore, you can choose Blender to start your 3D modeling journey.
